The text-based conversation app, Threads, on iOS, is rolling out a new setting that lets users use the app without Instagram. Meaning that you can now sign up with an email address or mobile number other than the one associated with Instagram. Until now, users needed an Instagram account to fully use the Threads app, as the app was closely integrated with Instagram and required Instagram credentials to sign up.
To use this feature, you need to access the Account settings on the Threads app and tap “Use Threads without Instagram.” This setting will direct you to delete your current Threads profile and open a new account.
If you choose to proceed, your current likes, posts, comments, and followers will be hidden for 30 days before being permanently deleted for good. Deleting the Threads account will have no impact on your Instagram profile, but after this, Meta won’t use your Instagram data to show personalized content, ads, and other experiences.
