When talking about small single-board computers (SBCs), the Raspberry Pi is often the first minicomputer to hit the mind, and that’s for a good reason. Every now and then, an innovator comes along with a unique project that blends cutting-edge tech and a pinch of beautiful creativity. Following several outstanding projects on Raspberry Pi on the internet, we have yet another outstanding project by Tuan Nguyen – Dune Weaver Pro.
Essentially, this Dune Weaver Pro project is more of a mesmerizing, motorized sand table that uses a steel ball to draw intricate patterns like Hexagons, Triangle swoops, or Thodonea designs. This steel ball is manipulated by a magnet, while the two motors, Radial Axis Motor and Angular Axis Motor, precisely control its movements and directions.
Since the Dune Weaver Pro leverages an Arduino for hardware control and a Python/Flask-based web interface, users can upload any patterns as they please, along with a bunch of existing patterns. You can have a look at the working of this Raspberry Pi project:

Approximately, the project should cost you around $100-150, which indeed is quite inexpensive when compared with other projects, demanding over a thousand dollars. The given is the list of items used in Dune Weaver Pro.
- DLC32 board – 1
- TMC2209 drivers – 2
- Nema 17 42-23 motors – 2
- 6 inch lazy susan (round)
- Raspberry pi (3B, 4, 5) or Zero 2W
- IKEA VITTSJÖ table – 1
- 16mm N52 magnet (or 15mm, whatever you can source. Preferably a ring magnet)
- 10mm magnet ball (or 14mm, search for magnet on discord and you’ll find some links)
In case you are looking forward to building this project, you can surface through the guide given below or the source code on GitHub:
For reference, this is not the Dune Weaver project. Tuan has already submitted a smaller version called ‘Mini Dune Weaver’ on Maker World. Make sure to follow Tuan Nguyen for the future updates on Dune Weaver.
