XDefiant developers just pushed a shockingly gigantic patch for a game you can’t even download now. Since XDefiant is preparing for its wind-down, this free-to-play FPS is already off the gaming stores and will be entirely offline on June 3rd, 2025.
XDefiant’s executive producer Mark Rubin says, “It’s obviously a bittersweet moment but I just want to say how proud I am of everyone on this team who did everything they could to make this game and all of its amazing content.“
Earlier this year, publisher Ubisoft laid off a huge number of developers, leaving behind a small team to work on the final update. And a lot of surprises, actually; the last update is way bigger than speculated.
Since this is the conclusive patch, the developing team has decided to include additional content from future season releases, including Seasons 4, 5, 6, 7, and even 8. This update adds three new factions planned for Season 3 and Wolves and Omega Force from Seasons 4 and 5, respectively. The team also decides to count six new Arena Maps and three new Linear Maps from the prospective seasons.
Also, there will be a new experience called Tactical. Tactical is about corridor-style maps with the first mode called Defuse, a 1-life classic Bomb mode. In this update, players can interact with Bots to chill or warm up and also get XP.
“Ubisoft has not only allowed a small team to stay on and continue working to get our Season 3 content out the door, but we’ve also been able to add some extra content to this release from future seasons. So, we have our Season 3 content plus some of the content from Season 4, 5, 6, 7, and even Season 8,” Rubin continues.
“All of this and more are our last tribute to all of the hard-working people who made this game and to all of the fans who have been with us through this journey. Not all journeys end well but we can all be proud of what we accomplished.“
Players who downloaded the game before its sunsetting date can enjoy the last yet massive patch.
