Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe’s recent interview with ASCII Japan hinted that the hit survival Palworld could soon go free-to-play live service game. The company has clarified that the interview was conducted months ago, and Palworld will continue to hold Buy-to-Play (B2P) as its business model.

Per the tweet from Palworld, “We are not changing our game’s business model, it will remain buy-to-play and not F2P or GaaS.” Pocketpair also refined that the interview, in the recent article published, was conducted months ago, when the team was still considering the best way forward for Palworld to create a long-lasting game. While the developers are still brooding on an ideal path, they have concluded that F2P is not a reasonable course.

Developers continued that Palworld was never designed as a Live-Service game, and switching between the business model will require too much effort and time. Additionally, it also appears that the existing players don’t want the adaptation. “We always put our players first,” says Palworld.

Palworld is now considering skins and DLC

As the clarification regarding the business model is now purified, Pocketpair is considering paid cosmetic skins and DLC expansions “to support the development”. It appears the developers are striving to make “Palworld the best game possible”.

While the CEO cited strategies like PUBG and Fall Guys, which compensated the buyers with similar worth of in-game currencies or items, this could be a reasonable approach carried on by Pocketpair, as the players already seem to have disliked the method of Palworld as a live service.
