With gaming PC and consoles running head-to-head in the competition, it can be daunting to choose between one. And as an electronics manufacturer, it is always hard to please the gamers of different platforms. In September, PlayStation increased its prices to maintain the profit boost. Circulating this, several players seem to consider a powerful gaming PC, equivalent to the PS5 price.

In an interview with Nikkei (thanks to PushSquare for bringing this paid interview into focus), PlayStation CEO Hideaki Nishino was asked about the company’s business plans regarding its hardware. It appears that the company is considering enhancing its precious console, rather than expanding its business vertical to PCs.

“I think that many mobile games have ads, and PCs are difficult to set up,” says Hideaki Nishino.

Citing the seamless experience of using PlayStation, he continued, “With PlayStation, you can play the content you purchased as soon as you turn it on. The products are clearly displayed in the stores where you buy software, so it’s an intuitive experience.”

PlayStation is expanding the overall game market

When asked about the multi-plat of PlayStation‘s first-party titles, Nishino confirmed that Sony Interactive Entertainment is trying to increase its overall gaming market by offering some PS titles for other platforms (like God of War, Bloodborne, or Final Fantasy VII Remake). Still, the home console (PlayStation) will remain the core facet of the business.

“We are trying to increase the overall game market by expanding content to PCs. There is no doubt that home consoles will be the core of our business, but by offering titles for devices other than home consoles, we will reach a wider range of customers.”
