The early prototype of ‘Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare‘ for Xbox 360 has been leaked online, providing insights into the early development. As we know Advanced Warfare was codenamed ‘Blacksmith’, this build reveals that the early version was titled ‘Call of Duty: Phantom’.

The prototype came to notice after Alpha Archive uploaded a video, showcasing the build: S1 1.5 build 385157 Fri Apr 26 13:42:00 2013 xeno. This prototype predates a year and a half of the final release of the game for Xbox 360 in 2013, and the Alpha Archive YouTube channel claims that Advanced Warfare was cloned from the early version of Ghosts. This now clears why the prototype starts with Call of Duty: Phantoms as the title. You can have a look at the video below:

While an archive page (which can’t be linked due to piracy issues) claims Advanced Warfare used leftover assets from Modern Warfare 2 and 3 as placeholders, no source backs the claim. Given the fact that both games have been developed by separate studios; Sledgehammer and Infinity Ward, which makes it harder for either to have access to these assets.

Nonetheless, this build appears to be a vertical slice, containing the early version of the “Fission” mission from the final game. For those who don’t know, in game development, Vertical Slice is a playable portion of the game, showcasing the features and mechanisms of the game.
