Even though Black Myth: Wukong is a relatively fresh release, the game has met with huge commercial success, and the developers Game Science appear to be already working on DLC or an expansion.
Per a Chinese gaming industry journalist, Daniel Camilo, DLC will come out somewhere near the Chinese New Year, which begins on January 29, 2025. “That is, right at the end of January, or very soon after. This is according to very reliable first-hand sources I heard from,” says Daniel. “Needless to say plans can always change. While teams have internal plans and roadmaps, nothing is hardly ever set in stone when it comes to release dates in gaming.” he continued.

As for now, what extra layer of content Black Myth: Wukong DLC will comprise is not conceded. Despite selling over 20 million copies (and 70% sales in China), Daniel Camilo expects 20% less sales of the DLC. He adds the difficulty of the game as the factor that might impact the business of the game, especially in China. Moreover, Camilo says, “Novelty & National pride factor will be gone for Chinese consumers once DLC releases.”
As Game Science has not addressed any news surrounding the DLC expansion, Black Myth: Wukong players and fans are advised to take the news as a rumor. However, the investor Daniel Wu’s interview with Bloomberg adds authenticity to the rumor.
Daniel Wu told Bloomberg, “It (Black Myth: Wukong) can reach 30 million sales over its lifetime, augmented with an expansion to come,” meaning that expansion is in development, and the company is considering its release soon.
