While Nintendo Switch is associated with family-friendly content, it also breeds a few titles with horrific themes. Game rating systems like ESRB or PEGI can help classify video games based on genres. Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club, an upcoming Nintendo Switch exclusive, just got described by ESRB and reveals the game has a great amount of shocking violent content.
Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club is a sequel to the Famicom Detective Club series, that makes an entry in the series after 27 years. While the prequels of Emio – The Smiling Man don’t primarily produce graphical violence, this sequel is set to be different.
What does the ESRB Summary say?
The ESRB rates the game M for Mature 17+ and notes – “This is a simulation/adventure game in which players follow a junior detective as he collaborates with police and locals to find a killer.” ESRB, after furnishing a professional detective-type vibe, drops the bombshell by depicting that cutscenes have instances of gore violence. The game also fosters the plot point that surrounds child abuse, self-harm, murder, and the use of foul language in a few scenes.
In all seriousness, this is hardly a surprise – given the game sets protagonists with the role of detective, it is evident that the game hosts a few violent and strong scenes. Nonetheless, the explanation from ESRB does mention the engaging nature, where the detective can ask follow-up questions to uncover key story elements/backstories.
