After going over thousands of demos per year and taking feedback from developers and players, Steam has made a precious progression on how demos will appear and behave on the store page.
Per the official post on Steam, players can add the demos to the library without installing them immediately (this wasn’t the case earlier).
Players can now install a demo, even if they own the full game. Firstly, this mechanism will make it easier for developers to test demos, and secondly, it makes players effortless to manage installing/uninstalling demos.
Additionally, Steam is adding a separate store page for demos that will better describe the contents, add separate screenshots, upload a trailer, and specify supported features. This page will contain the ‘Install Demo’ and ‘Add to Library’ buttons. Moreover, a widget that links back to the full game exists too.
Apart from a dedicated Demo page, demos will behave more like free games, appearing in all the sections and lists. For instance, take a look at the given image that shows Free Demo appearing in the ‘New & Trending’ section.
Steam has also made adjustments to the thresholds for free products to appear in those sections to better balance them with paid products.
