It could be a piece of disappointing news for Nintendo Switch users. Capcom has confirmed Monster Hunter: Wilds will support cross-platform play, but it plans to not port it to portable platforms – including Nintendo Switch. The reason is the hardware limitations.
This information on the upcoming objects comes from Capcom’s general meeting of shareholders, which answers the question – ‘Will this game be limited to these non-portable consoles?’.
The response says, “One concept we’ve incorporated into this title is aiming to portray the maximum of the world of Monster Hunter by utilizing the latest technology to its limit. To that end, the platforms capable of realizing that concept are currently the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Going forward, we will provide more thorough details regarding these concepts and themes when we release information on the game. We hope you look forward to it.”
Monster Hunter: Wilds – Crossplay, but not on Switch
As Capcom confirmed, they are trying to portray a maximum of the world of Monster Hunter: Wilds, portable platforms might fall short in checking the demand for high processing power and graphical capabilities.
Given the popularity of the Monster Hunter series on Switch, it is indeed a bit of a disappointment for Nintendo Switch owners. But the decision is for a good reason. For instance, when video games that have an expansive and detailed open world like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt were ported, they faced heavy criticism. Frame rate drops, visual downgradings, and occasional performance issues contribute to the fuss.
Beyond this, Monster Hunter: Wilds players will soon enjoy crossplay between PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. While cross-platform play is indeed a thing of enjoyment, it also comes with a few limitations – cheating. It is interesting to look forward to Capcom’s announcement on how it will handle cheating and mods.
