A couple of months ago, the new feature to edit text messages was highlighted through the APK teardown of Google Messages. Recently, many beta users are experiencing this without any tinkering. Both users having beta access can experience chat alteration in the last 15 minutes.
First spotted by Assemble Debug back in February, Google was seen working on new flags that lets users edit sent messages. It was done by selecting a chat through a long press and modifying it using Pencil from top navigation.
Google has started testing the message editing feature in Google Messages which means it could arrive soon.
I shared about it back in February on my blog – https://t.co/gfZu1OAiHI

After selecting a sent message, beta users can notice the Pencil option added towards the right of the copy text. Deleting chat, bookmarking and three dots still remain the same in the top action row.
Earlier, the estimated time limit was considered to be 30 mins however it has been reduced to 15 mins before implementing it into the actual app.
Google Messages is an all-in-one messaging app enabling communication via SMS and Rich Communication Services (RCS). All the messages (text, audio, photo, videos) are enriched with secured encryption. It seems like new additions provide good flexibility with privacy.
Other beta features that are most likely to be introduced involve more contact info of unknown users and hiding text messages from blocked IDs. Talking about appearance, the UI of the gallery picker and redesign of GIFs is too likely.
