Electronic Arts‘ game development studio based in South Korea – EA Korea Studio, appears to be working on a new major Live-service AAA game, with a possible mobile focus. Several official job listings at EA make it clear that EA Korea Studio has been working on an unannounced project since January 2023. With the latest recruitment of a UI Technical Artist Lead in April 2024, we can assert the team is still expanding.
Starting, the role of Server Software Engineer makes it clear that the project will be live-service. The job requires expertise in Node.js and RESTful API, which align with online games requiring managing player data with real-time updates.
The recruitment of a Mobile Client Software Engineer furnishes the game with cross-platform (PC, Android, iOS) support for live service operations. This also states that the game might have content updates, microtransactions, or even seasonal events.
Moreover, the Development Director role requires over 10 years of experience which signifies the complexity of the project.
Given the expertise of EA Korea Studio in the Sports genre, we expect the new video game to be combat sports or extreme sports. This guess is even strengthened by the positions of Client Software Engineer – C++ and Gaming Software Engineer – C++. However, given more emphasis on visual and complex UI/UX developments, the game could be a leap forward for the studio.
While we don’t have much information on specific genres, Gamer Stones has reached out to EA Korea Studio to extract some tweaks. As this unannounced project is quite big, we need to wait longer to have more insights.
