Earlier this week, players encountered unexpected pop-up advertisements promoting the Assassin’s Creed: Mirage Black Friday Sale while engaged in older games like Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, Odyssey, and Origins. Initially believed to be a sales-driven endeavor, Ubisoft has now officially dismissed these claims, attributing it to a technical error.
The issue came into the limelight when a Reddit user reported a full-screen Assassin’s Creed: Mirage 20% off advertisement appearing during gameplay. The Reddit post reads as follows:
Just got an in-game advertisement when I tried to go to the map

Upon investigation by The Verge and IGN, Ubisoft clarified that the pop-up ads were not intentional but the result of a technical glitch. The statement says, “We have been made aware that some players encountered pop-up ads while playing certain Assassin’s Creed titles yesterday, This was the result of a technical error that we addressed as soon as we learned of the issue.”
However, no specific details regarding the cause of the error was provided by Unisoft.
Not the First Time
This is not the first instance of Ubisoft experimenting with the in-game advertisements. Back in NBA 2019, the inclusion of unskippable video ads sparked significant criticism.
The sudden impression of the latest title’s pop-up ads, especially during the Black Friday period, raises questions about the possibility of it being merely a technical error.
