Starting from November 12, 2023, Microsoft is set to enforce a ban on the use of unauthorized third-party controllers and accessories for Xbox. This directive has triggered an immediate response, with numerous players encountering an error code, “0x82d60002,” signaling the use of unauthorized accessories.
“The warning message states, “A connected accessory is not authorized. Using unauthorized accessories compromises your gaming experience. For this reason, the unauthorized accessory will be blocked from use on 11/12/2023.”
As per the report by Windows Central, the compatibility issues arise due to conflicts with the latest console build, prompting a complete restriction on third-party accessories within the next two weeks. The report also advises users to return these unauthorized accessories to the retailers from which they were purchased.
The widespread use of third-party controllers on Xbox makes this decision impactful, especially considering the potential negligence of retailers to adhere to return policies. This move follows Microsoft’s recent legal battles in the context of the Activision acquisition, adding a layer of controversy to the decision to block unauthorized accessories.

Xbox Might Approve Some Third-Party Accessories
Despite the inconvenience caused by the blockage of certain accessories, there are reports suggesting that Microsoft is contemplating the authorization of select third-party wireless Xbox controllers, potentially providing a solution for affected players. Those with licensed products need not be concerned about these changes.
